Statement
The Sudan Doctors Network is monitoring the significant fly infestation in Port Sudan and Red Sea State over the past few days. This is a result of recent rainfall, which has created a breeding ground for flies and poses a direct threat to public health, especially due to the increased risk of waterborne diseases and the potential for watery diarrhea.
This environmental deterioration is worsened by the accumulation of waste—particularly during the current rainfall—along with inadequate pest control and spraying efforts. This situation presents serious health challenges for the state if urgent and coordinated intervention is not undertaken.
The Sudan Doctors Network calls upon the Ministry of Health and the relevant health authorities in Red Sea State to fully assume their responsibilities by intensifying cleaning campaigns, implementing effective fly-control programs, and strengthening health and environmental monitoring. The Network also urges citizens to follow preventive measures, including avoiding eating in public or open areas, maintaining personal hygiene, and properly disposing of household waste to minimize the risk of disease transmission.
The Network emphasizes that protecting citizens’ health is a shared responsibility that requires full cooperation between authorities and the community to prevent any further deterioration of the health situation in the state.
