In celebration of World Malaria Day, we are proud to announce Sudan’s new strategic vision for malaria control. We are committed to making malaria no longer a major public health problem in our country, progressing towards a Sudan free of malaria.
Our mission is clear: to ensure equitable and universal access to quality-assured vector control, vaccination, chemoprevention, diagnostics, and effective antimalarial treatments. This mission will be supported by a robust, surveillance-driven system designed for timely decision-making and reinforced through strong advocacy and behavior change communication.
The strategy is implemented through national leadership, multisectoral collaboration, and strong partnerships, guided by principles of equity, accountability, adaptability in fragile settings, and continuous improvement through innovation and operational research.
In line with the Prime Minister’s End Malaria Initiative, our updated strategy aims to eliminate preventable malaria deaths, and reduce morbidity by 50% by 2030. We will prioritize vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women and children under five. Key components include revitalizing indoor residual spraying in irrigated schemes, and enhancing urban malaria control through routine larval source management.
We are committed to ensuring that medicines and diagnostic tests are available in all health facilities while strengthening community health systems. Additionally, we aim to scale up malaria vaccination and improve its coverage and seek to enhance domestic financing for malaria control efforts.
We recognize that malaria control is not solely a health mandate; it requires the concerted effort of multiple sectors. Together, we will foster an adaptable, accountable, and equitable approach to addressing malaria in Sudan.
