
Energy Minister, Eng. Consultant Moatasim Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed the state‘s strategic direction toward expanding renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, through the ratification of specialized legislation and the exemption of related imports. He noted that agricultural projects have already begun transitioning to solar power plants.
These remarks were made during the Minister‘s chairing of the periodic meeting of electricity companies, aimed at coordinating priorities, advancing operations, and strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Sudan.
Key Operational and Strategic Highlights:
Renewable Energy: Transitioning agricultural sectors to solar energy and finalizing legal frameworks for green energy.
Thermal and Hydro Generation: Reviewing the status of hydroelectric dams and thermal power stations, including Umm Dabaker, Khartoum North (Bahri), Garri, Kalanieb, and the barge in Port Sudan, focusing on rehabilitation to increase output.
Infrastructure and Logistics: Addressing challenges within the National Grid and rehabilitating the Main Control Center and communication networks.
Reviewing the urgent plan for importing transformers, cables, and meters.
Repairing damage to the network and completing the rehabilitation of the Transformer Maintenance Workshop.
Future Vision: Approving a comprehensive roadmap for the electricity sector extending to 2030.
Workforce: Addressing sector-wide challenges while ensuring the retention of employees and the settlement of their professional status and rights.
