The Ministry of Energy has followed up on some media outlets’ misinterpretations of the statement made by the Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Musta’sim Ibrahim, regarding petroleum supplies, as some interpretations did not reflect the true meaning of the statement.
The Ministry of Energy assures citizens that there is no reason to rush to gas stations, as petroleum supplies are available in sufficient quantities and are being provided in accordance with the operational capacities of storage tanks, with ships loaded with fuel waiting to be unloaded at the port, thus ensuring continuity of supply.
In this context, the Ministry clarifies that the current gasoline stock is sufficient for the country for 88 days, without counting the ships contracted within the supply chain that will arrive in the country successively during the coming period, with the total quantities currently available amounting to 191,883 metric tons, while the daily consumption rate is about 2,175 metric tons. There are also two gasoline tankers currently at sea awaiting instructions to enter and unload.
The stock of gasoline in warehouses is 88,909 metric tons, in addition to two ships being unloaded with a cargo of 86,273 metric tons, bringing the total available quantities to 175,082 metric tons. With a daily consumption rate of 3,235 metric tons, these quantities are sufficient for up to 54 days, without counting the contracted ships in the supply chain that will arrive in the country successively during the coming period. There are also three other ships ready to arrive in the coming weeks after berths and storage capacity become available.
As for cooking gas, the quantities available in warehouses amount to 2,664 metric tons, in addition to a tanker carrying 5,474 metric tons, bringing the total available quantities to 8,138 metric tons. There are also three gas tankers awaiting scheduling and instructions to unload according to actual demand.
The Ministry notes that the scheduling of gas ships is based on available storage capacity, especially in light of the destruction of some gas storage facilities as a result of targeting by Rapid Support Forces militias during attacks on the city of Port Sudan.
The Ministry of Energy reiterates that petroleum supplies are proceeding normally in accordance with approved supply and storage plans, reassuring citizens that the ministry is continuously monitoring the country’s fuel and gas needs.
